Our Production Processes

At LOTEPL, we take great pride in our production processes for our organic and biodynamic Darjeeling teas. Our team of experienced tea growers, who have inherited their knowledge and techniques for generations, carefully tend to the plants using only natural and organic methods. They work in harmony with the cycles of nature, following the principles of biodynamic agriculture to ensure the best possible quality.

As the tea plants grow, our team carefully plucks the leaves at the right time, when they are most flavourful. Here’s a timeline of our garden activities:

Tea plucking starts in mid-February or early March, and the season lasts till November.
In the first eight weeks, delicate first flush leaves are produced which is followed by Exquisite Second Flush, Delightful Summer and Flowery Autumn Flushes.
Post-November, during dormant winter months, seasonal pruning and garden maintenance works are carried out.

Tea leaves are processed blending traditional knowledge, scientific development and clientele demands. Our teas are packaged and shipped to customers worldwide who appreciate the care and attention that goes into every cup.

Our Operations

Our corporate office in Kolkata’s port area is the heart of our tea operations. From here, our premium blends travel across the globe, connecting us to our valued partners in distant lands.

But it’s not just about the location; our state-of-the-art facilities allow us to closely supervise every step of the process, ensuring that each leaf is of the utmost quality.

Sustainable Packaging

At LOTEPL, we have fully embraced sustainable packaging to decrease our environmental footprint. We use biodegradable filter mesh in our tea bags instead of filter paper. We reuse polypropylene bags for packaging and transporting teas from garden-factories to the warehouse in Kolkata. Some of our retail products are packaged in hand-made paper envelopes. We are also in the process of replacing plastic liners with biodegradable liners.

We go the extra mile to ensure the well-being of the environment and our customers. We test our PPE bags through an accredited third-party agency to determine the overall migration of constituents of the bags coming in contact with tea. This ensures that we provide our customers with the best and most sustainable products.

Teas are transferred to Food Grade-Paper Sacks and Wooden Chest for Storage and Transport to Clients.
